Below are the most common questions we receive about ACI certification.

    General

Q:  Where can I find more information on eligibility requirements, exam content, exam costs, application deadlines, testing windows, certification maintenance, and more for ACI certification?

A:  All facets of ACI’s certification programs are spelled out in detail in the ACI Certification Handbook
Q:  How can I check on the status of my ACI certification?

A:  All certified individuals are listed in the online ACI Certification Directory. If your name is not listed, it could be because your certification has expired and is no longer active. In this case, please contact an ACI representative at aci@aami.org. You can also see the current status of your ACI certification in your AAMI profile by logging into http://store.aami.org and clicking ‘My Memberships & Certifications’.

Q:  How can I get a copy of my receipt?

A:  All receipts can be downloaded directly from http://store.aami.org by logging in and clicking on 'My Orders' on the left side of your profiled page. From there, you'll be able to navigate to ‘All Orders’ and select the period of time that you are seeking a receipt for.

Q:  How can I upgrade my CBET or CRES certification to Full status if I tested as a Candidate?

A:  If you were eligible to sit for the exam as a Candidate, and now have the necessary requirements needed for Full certification, you’ll need to complete and submit a completed Upgrade Application Form via email to aci@aami.org.

Q:  What do I need to do to retire my certification status?

A:  If you are retiring from the HTM field, in order to ensure that your ACI certification does not become revoked, you’ll need to complete and submit the Status Change Form via email to aci@aami.org.

Q: Can I suspend my certification? What is the process to do so?

A:  Yes, you can only suspend your certification for a valid military deployment or medical issue. To do so, please complete and submit a Status Change Form to aci@aami.org.

Q:  If I have my certification, am I automatically an AAMI member?

A:  No. If you would like to become an AAMI member and enjoy a wide array of member benefits, you will need to apply for membership. Visit www.aami.org/membership to find out which membership category works best for you.

Q:  How do I obtain my Certification ID number?

A:  You can find your Certification ID number on your ACI renewal card, or by emailing aci@aami.org

Q:  What do I do if I have an issue with my certification status, exam results, etc.?
A:  If you have any issues with certification related decisions, you have the right to submit an ACI Appeal Form that will be reviewed by the ACI board.

    Exams

Q:  How do I apply for an upcoming ACI exam?

A:  To sit for an ACI certification exam, you need to complete an online Exam Application.  Once submitted, an ACI representative will review the application and provide you with an approved or denied email within 2-3 business days of the submission.  After receiving the approval, you will need to follow the instructions to registering for a date and time with our testing center via their online portal, Webassessor.

Q:  How many questions are on the exam and how many correct answers are required to pass the exam?

A: The number of questions varies depending on the certification exam being taken. Please view the ACI Certification Handbook to find out how many question are on the exam that you are interested in.

Q:  How can I study for the ACI certification exams

A:  For each ACI exam, there is a complete content outline listed in the ACI Certification Handbook. In addition to the outline, a list of references is available in the handbook for each exam. If you would like additional study materials, AAMI offers the CBET Smart Practice for the BMET-related exams, the CBET Study Course (online or eLearning) for the CBET exam, the CHTM Study Guide for the CHTM exam, and the BMET101 (eLearning) course for the CABT exam. Each of these AAMI courses and products can be found at www.aami.org/store.

Q:  What happens if I register for an exam but decide not to take the exam in the period I registered for?

A:  If an exam is scheduled within Webassessor and missed, unfortunately, you will have to reapply and pay the exam fee again.  If you apply for an exam but do not schedule an exam with a testing center, and fail to schedule within the testing window, your application can be moved to the next window.  This can only be done one time before your application and fees are forefited.

Q:  What happens if I miss my scheduled exam?

A:  If an exam is scheduled within Webassessor and missed, unfortunately, you will have to reapply and pay the exam fee again.  If you apply for an exam but do not schedule an exam with a testing center, and fail to schedule within the testing window, your application can be moved to the next window.  This can only be done one time before your application and fees are forefited.

Q:  I see that the CABT exam is administered via online proctoring, what does that mean?

A:  Unlike the other ACI exams, which must be taken at an approved testing location, the CABT can be taken from anywhere, as long as your device and location meet the requirements laid out for online proctored exams.  To find more information on requirements and expectations for online proctored exams, please review the ACI Certification Handbook.
Q:  When will I receive my official exam results?

A:  Official exam results will be sent 30-45 days from the last day of a testing window.  Preliminary results will be sent immediately after submitting your exam.

Q:  Can I reschedule an exam that is already planned?

A:  Scheduled exams can be rescheduled as long as the request is submitted to aci@aami.org within 5-business days of the exam date.  Once inside the 5-business day window, the exam must be taken or else your fees will be forfeited.

    Recertification

Q:  What is the recertification process?

A:  After you have successfully completed an exam, you will be required to submit 30 continuing education units and a renewal fee every three years to maintain the certification. You can find more details on the recertification process on the certification maintenance webpage or the ACI Certification Handbook.

Q:  How can I access the online journal?

A:  Your personal online journal can be accessed by logging into http://store.aami.org and clicking ‘My CEU Journal’.  From here you can add and submit CEU activities for your current reporting period.

Q: Can I submit CEUs as I earn them?
A:  Yes, it is strongly encouraged that you document and submit your CEUs as you earn them.  This can be done as often as you wish by accessing your online journal at http://store.aami.org.  Once logged into your ‘My CEU Journal’, you can add CEU activities by clicking ‘Add New Entry’ and submitting them as they are added. If you have any questions about adding CEUs to your online journal, please email aci@aami.org.

Q:  How long does it take to process my renewal after I submit my journal?

A:  Typically, it takes 3-5 business days for ACI to review a journal and open the online payment order for you.  Once ACI approves your journal, you will be sent instructions to log into http://store.aami.org to pay your renewal fee in your ‘My Orders’ tab.  ACI will print the updated renewal card/letter and mail it out within 2-3 weeks of renewal (Due to the pandemic, this may take longer than expected). If you are submitting your journal within the last few weeks of December, however, it will take longer due to the heavy rate of submission at that time.

Q:  If I have more than one certification, can I use one journal?
A:  If you have multiple certifications, you only need 30 CEUs to renewal all of them.  Once your online journal has at least 30 CEUs submitted, ACI will review and approve for all designations that are due for renewal.

Q: What are my options if my certification has lapsed?

A:  Depending on how much time has passed since your certification has lapsed, you may still be able to pay your renewal fee and reactivation fee with a completed journal in order to recertify. If over 90 days has passed since your expiration date, you’ll need to retake the exam in order to reactivate your certification. Please contact ACI at aci@aami.org to see what your options are.
Q:  What happens if I don’t have the necessary CEUs to renew my certification?

A:  At least 30 CEUs are due at the time of your expiration date.  If you don’t have the necessary CEUs, email aci@aami.org for guidance on how to earn them. You can also find a CEU Guide online to assist your search for CEU activities.

Q:  Is there a grace period if I miss the deadline to renew my certification?

A:  The grace period for recertification is 90 days.  If your certification is past due, you must submit your renewal within those 90 days to avoid revocation.

Q:  Does the CABT have the same renewal requirements of other ACI certifications?

A:  No, the CABT does not have renewal requirements.  Once earned, the CABT designation lasts 5 years.  This is a non-renewable designation.  Should a candidate wish to hold the CABT longer than 5 years, they must retake and pass the exam.
